China Visit of VirtualEmployee.com Chairman Narinder Singh Mahil
“China may be way ahead of us in infrastructure and their business practices may be better than us”, observed the Chairman of VirtualEmployee.com, Narinder Singh Mahil, “but they are a million miles behind India as far as IT outsourcing is concerned.” He speaks from first-hand experience, since he was a part of a trade delegation to China that was organized jointly by the Indian Government and NASSCOM for its member companies from5th – 7thSeptember,2012. The delegation visited Shanghai and Nanjing as a part of an ongoing initiative by NASSCOM to increase partnership opportunities between IT companies in the two countries. Very senior dignitaries from the Indian Government and from NASSCOM led the delegation.
NASSCOM’s invite read, “As we all know, China is an emerging economic superpower that continues to grow at a robust pace even during the times when economies in the West are facing a slowdown. This has largely been on the back of a strong domestic demand, which complements the large exports industry. The domestic market is largely driven by the Government, which also influences over 150,000 state-owned enterprises with huge IT budgets. Therefore, the opportunity is very large in the domestic market in China and it is imperative to make inroads into this region through business partnerships and support from the Indian Government. Though China IT-BPO industry is largely focused on the domestic market, the Indian IT- BPO industry has a clear value proposition in domain expertise, service delivery maturity, global experience and unparalleled human capital.”
The delegation had focused meetings with the Chinese Government and its IT industry’s movers and shakers to create opportunities for higher market access for the Indian industry,as well as reduce non-tariff barriers.
In Shanghai, the Indian trade delegation met the Shanghai Software Association (SSA), had a roundtable discussion with leaders of the the Chinese Government, customers and IT companies, and was also taken to visit some of the leading Chinese IT companies. Presentations included such interesting topics such as “State of the Nation – Shared Services & Outsourcing Environment in China”. The meeting between the Chinese Government leaders and IT companies featured discussions on “Opportunities and Challenges for Indian IT- BPO industry in China & the way forward”.
As a part of the China visit, the delegation also participated in the 8th China (Nanjing) International Software Product & Information Service Trade Fair held in Nanjing. They also visited the Nanjing Software Valley and some leading Chinese software companies such as Vance Info and Neusoft. The delegation also actively participated in the India-China IT- ITES Sector Cooperation Seminar whle in Nanjing.
